Comey’s Arraignment Moved Up to Wednesday Morning For ‘Security Reasons’

The arraignment of former FBI Director James Comey has been moved up to Wednesday morning at 10 a.m. ET due to heightened security concerns, according to a federal court order issued Monday.

“The arraignment of Defendant James B. Comey, Jr. shall begin promptly at 10:00 a.m. on Wednesday, October 8, 2025, in Courtroom 600 on the Sixth Floor of the Albert V. Bryan United States Courthouse,” the judge stated in a two-page directive.

The order cited “multiple previously scheduled matters” expected to draw large crowds to the courthouse and emphasized the need to ensure the safety of the court, the parties, and the public.

Comey had originally been set to appear for arraignment on Thursday morning following his indictment last month by a grand jury in the Eastern District of Virginia. His case has been assigned to U.S. District Judge Michael Nachmanoff, a Biden appointee.

According to CBS News, the FBI is considering deploying a team of “large, heavily equipped” agents in Kevlar vests to arrest Comey ahead of his court appearance. However, internal disagreements have reportedly slowed those plans, as some FBI supervisors have declined to cooperate.

Comey was indicted on two counts—making false statements and obstruction of a congressional proceeding. If convicted, he faces up to five years in prison.

In a video statement posted to social media last week, Comey lashed out at President Trump, suggesting his prosecution was politically motivated.
