Payback may soon be landing on narco-traffickers in their own backyard.

The United States is reportedly preparing military strikes on drug labs inside Venezuela, with possible drone attacks also being considered against top traffickers. According to NBC News, operations could begin within weeks, though President Trump has not yet given final approval.

Sources familiar with the planning—two U.S. officials and others involved in the discussions—say the potential strikes are part of a broader escalation aimed at curbing the flow of narcotics into the United States. The action comes after three alleged Venezuelan drug boats were destroyed in recent weeks.

Officials say Washington’s growing frustration stems from Venezuelan President Nicolás Maduro’s failure to stop illegal drug trafficking. One senior official told NBC News the U.S. is weighing military options because Maduro’s government “is not doing enough to halt the flow of narcotics.”

When asked about the reports, the White House pointed back to a previous statement from President Trump: “We’ll see what happens. Venezuela is sending us their gang members, their drug dealers and drugs. It’s not acceptable.” The Pentagon declined to comment.

At the same time, behind-the-scenes talks are reportedly taking place between Washington and Caracas, using Middle Eastern intermediaries. A senior administration official said Maduro has expressed to these go-betweens that he may be open to concessions in order to maintain power, though which countries are serving as intermediaries has not been specified.
