A Texas plumber made a shocking discovery while mowing grass outside his workplace — stumbling upon a human skull that police later confirmed belonged to a missing 30-year-old man.
Walter Stephens, an employee at Harrell Commercial Plumbing in San Antonio, was cutting grass on September 15 when he noticed something unusual on the ground.
“I saw what looked like a dried cantaloupe or something,” Stephens recalled to KSAT. “I picked it up, and the bottom part of the jaw stayed on the ground. When I turned it over and saw the teeth, I was like, ‘Oh my God.’”

Stephens quickly alerted his boss, who then contacted police. Responding officers and medical examiners searched the area near Martinez Creek and found additional remains, including a detached jaw and several bones scattered behind the property.
“It was a crazy experience,” Stephens told KENS5. “We walk this property all the time, and it looked like the bones had recently been moved by either an animal or a person. It’s sad, but I’m glad I found him.”
The Bexar County Medical Examiner’s Office later identified the skull as that of Austin Tomas Wyrosdick, age 30. The cause and manner of death remain under investigation.
San Antonio police have not yet said how long Wyrosdick had been missing or provided further details about the case.
