Golf Icon Phil Mickelson Demands Ilhan Omar Be ‘Sent Back to Somalia’
'Fox News @ Night' panelists react to Democratic Rep. Ilhan Omar's remarks on Charlie Kirk and the debate over civility in politics.
Golf legend Phil Mickelson sparked controversy over the weekend with a series of outspoken posts on the platform X (formerly Twitter), where he criticized several Democratic members of Congress by name, including Reps. Ilhan Omar (D-MN) and Jasmine Crockett (D-TX).
Mickelson’s comments were made in the aftermath of conservative activist Charlie Kirk’s assassination, which has prompted intense national debate. Some in the media and political circles have described Kirk as a divisive figure, pointing to his past rhetoric. Mickelson, however, took issue with such characterizations, especially comments made by Rep. Omar in a recent interview with CNN.
Ilhan spews hate every time she opens her mouth, she came here fraudulently and will hopefully be sent back to Somalia soon. https://t.co/2kOhBM1abS

Speaking to CNN’s Kaitlan Collins, Omar said of Kirk: “It’s one thing to care about his life because obviously so many people loved him, including his children and wife. But I am not going to sit here and be judged for not wanting to honor any legacy this man has left behind. That should be in the dustbin of history, and we should hopefully move on and forget the hate that he spewed every single day.”
In response, Mickelson posted a clip of her remarks, accusing Omar of consistently spreading hatred. “Ilhan spews hate every time she opens her mouth,” he wrote. “She came here fraudulently and will hopefully be sent back to Somalia soon.”

Omar, who was born in Somalia and immigrated to the U.S. with her family in 1995, became a U.S. citizen in 2000 and has served in Congress since 2019.
Mickelson also praised Kirk’s widow, Erika Kirk, for her emotional speech during her husband’s memorial service in Glendale, Arizona. In a widely viewed moment, Erika publicly forgave her husband’s killer, saying: “My husband Charlie wanted to save young men, just like the one who took his life. That young man, I forgive him.”
Sharing a quote from her speech, Mickelson contrasted it with the tone of Democratic lawmakers: “While Ilhan and Jasmine are speaking hateful rhetoric, Erika Kirk is saying this. I have no words. Amazing,” he wrote.
Mickelson also targeted Rep. Jasmine Crockett over her recent comments defending the use of strong language in political discourse. In an appearance on CNN, Crockett defended past comparisons between Republican figures and Adolf Hitler, saying, “I am using that language because it is accurate language.”
Mickelson responded on X, writing: “Jasmine and Ilhan spew hate every time they open their mouth and it is total bull***. They are the problem, certainly aren’t the solution, and they both need to go.”
The posts have drawn mixed reactions online, with supporters praising Mickelson for speaking out and critics accusing him of engaging in inflammatory rhetoric himself. Neither Omar nor Crockett has publicly responded to the comments as of Monday.
