3 officers dead, 2 injured after being shot while serving warrant in York County, Pa.
NORTH CODORUS TOWNSHIP, Pa. (WPVI) – A deadly shooting on Wednesday in York County, Pennsylvania, left three police officers dead and two others wounded. Authorities say the suspect was also killed during the incident.
The officers were responding to a follow-up investigation related to a domestic incident that began the previous day. The shooting occurred in North Codorus Township, a rural area about 115 miles west of Philadelphia near the Maryland border.
Governor Josh Shapiro called it “an absolutely tragic and devastating day.”
“We grieve the loss of three precious souls who served this county, this Commonwealth, and this country,” Shapiro said during a press conference. “This kind of violence is not OK. We need to do better as a society.”

Officials have not released the identities of the officers, the suspect, or details about which departments were involved, citing the ongoing investigation.
According to Pennsylvania State Police Commissioner Christopher Paris, a full and fair investigation is underway. “The grief will be unbearable—but we will bear it,” he said.
The shooting marks one of the deadliest days for law enforcement in Pennsylvania in recent decades. In 2009, three Pittsburgh officers were ambushed and killed while responding to another domestic disturbance.
York Hospital confirmed it was treating two people in serious condition and had implemented enhanced security measures in response to the situation.
The violence unfolded along a rural road surrounded by farmland, barns, and cornfields. Witnesses described the scene as chaotic. Dave Miller, who lives nearby, told ABC affiliate WHTM that he saw officers approach a barn on a neighboring property before hearing “many, many gunshots.”
“It was traumatic,” Miller said. “Like a scene off today’s TV.”

Federal agents have joined local authorities in the investigation. Pennsylvania Attorney General Pamela Bondi condemned the attack, calling violence against police “a scourge on our society.”
A local school district temporarily issued a shelter-in-place order out of caution, although no schools or students were directly involved in the incident.
This tragedy follows another deadly encounter in the region earlier this year, when a police officer was killed during a hostage situation at a hospital.
Governor Shapiro reiterated the need for change. “We need to help the people who think that picking up a gun is the answer to resolving disputes,” he said. “We need to do better when it comes to mental health.”
