WATCH: BLM’s Official Account Posts Video Saying Black People ‘Have a Right to Violence’

A recent Instagram reel shared by the official Black Lives Matter account is drawing sharp criticism after it featured a clip stating that “oppressed people have a right to violence.” The post comes in the wake of public outcry following the fatal stabbing of 23-year-old Ukrainian refugee Iryna Zarutska in Charlotte, North Carolina.

Although the BLM post did not mention Zarutska directly, its timing has prompted backlash, with critics accusing the organization of promoting violence and racial division.

In the footage of the incident, Brown reportedly stated, “I got that white girl” immediately after the stabbing, a comment that has fueled further outrage.

The day after the full video was released, BLM posted a scene from the 1983 film Born in Flames, in which a character argues that violence is a justified tool for oppressed groups. “Right to violence. All oppressed people have a right to violence,” the character says. “It’s like your right to pee. You gotta have the right place, gotta have the right time.”

Federal officials have since taken action. On Tuesday, Attorney General Pam Bondi announced federal charges against Brown, including for committing an act of violence resulting in death on a mass transit system. She condemned the murder, calling it a failure of soft-on-crime policies.

“Iryna Zarutska was a young woman living the American dream — her horrific murder is a direct result of failed soft-on-crime policies that put criminals before innocent people,” Bondi said. “We will seek the maximum penalty for this unforgivable act of violence — he will never again see the light of day as a free man.”

FBI Director Kash Patel also weighed in, calling the attack “a disgraceful act that should never happen in America.” He confirmed that the FBI had joined the investigation immediately and pledged continued support to ensure Brown is held fully accountable.

If convicted, Brown could face the death penalty.
