A Guatemalan national previously convicted of indecent behavior with a juvenile has been taken into custody by U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) officers in New Orleans, officials confirmed Monday.

Cristian Soto-Galeano was apprehended by ICE’s local field office and is expected to be deported after serving a two-year prison sentence tied to his prior conviction. The agency posted a photo of the arrest on social media, where Soto-Galeano is seen in handcuffs and shackles, standing next to a much taller ICE officer. The striking height contrast quickly drew attention online.

“ICE New Orleans arrested Cristian Soto-Galeano, a citizen of Guatemala,” the agency said in a post on X. “His criminal history includes a conviction for indecent behavior with a juvenile, and he was sentenced to two years in prison.”

The agency added a light-hearted caption to the post, stating, “We stand ready to face any challenge, big or small.” ICE did not specify Soto-Galeano’s immigration status at the time of the arrest. A request for further comment has been sent to the agency.

Social media users reacted strongly to the viral image, with many focusing on the man’s short stature in contrast to the officer beside him. While the average height for adult men in Guatemala is approximately 5 feet 4 inches, Soto-Galeano appeared significantly shorter.

The arrest follows a similarly viral ICE photo from San Diego last month, where a Mexican national, 42-year-old Diego Hernandez, was taken into custody for multiple DUI offenses and repeated unlawful entries into the U.S. In that image, Hernandez was photographed wearing a “South Park” t-shirt while standing near a female ICE agent. The photo prompted speculation and commentary online, particularly around the agent’s pose.

According to ICE, Hernandez is also scheduled for deportation.
