Charlie Sheen Says He Began Having Sex with Men While on Crack

Charlie Sheen is speaking candidly about a lesser-known chapter of his life, revealing that his experiences with same-sex relationships were closely tied to his use of crack cocaine. Now, a decade after publicly disclosing his HIV-positive status, the actor says he’s ready to openly discuss this aspect of his past.
In a recent interview on Good Morning America, the Two and a Half Men star said, “[Crack is] what started it. That’s where it was born, or sparked.” He explained that during periods of sobriety, he tried to understand how those experiences came about, ultimately coming to a place of acceptance: “Where did that come from? Why did that happen? And then just finally being like, ‘So what?’ So what? Some of it was weird. A lot of it was fucking fun, and life goes on.”
Sheen elaborates further in his forthcoming memoir, The Book of Sheen, and in the new Netflix docuseries aka Charlie Sheen. Reflecting on his past sexual encounters with men, he said, “I flipped the menu.”
“I’m not going to run from my past or let it own me,” Sheen told People, emphasizing his decision to take control of his own narrative.
The actor, known for roles in Wall Street and The Three Musketeers, also contracted HIV during the height of his drug use. He recounted that some men who stayed at his home took photos of his medication and attempted to blackmail him. Initially, Sheen paid to keep them quiet but eventually went public with his diagnosis in 2015.
Discussing his decision to open up now, Sheen described the experience as “fucking liberating” in the documentary. “It’s like a train didn’t come through the side of the restaurant. A fucking piano didn’t fall out of the sky. No one ran into the room and shot me,” he said, highlighting the relief of being honest without the catastrophic consequences he once feared.
In another interview with Variety, Sheen credited a former drug dealer named Marco with helping him begin the path to recovery. Marco had secretly cut his supply with baking soda in an effort to reduce its potency. “It’s kind of the moon landing of a solution inside of that insanity,” Sheen said. “It just made sense to give that a shot.”
