Powerball jackpot skyrockets to a life-changing 5M ahead of tonight’s drawing — 7th-largest in game’s history

One ticket could change everything tonight.

The Powerball jackpot has surged to a staggering $815 million, making it the seventh-largest in the game’s history. The massive prize is up for grabs in Wednesday night’s drawing, after no player matched all six numbers in Monday’s game.

The winning numbers from Monday’s draw were: 16, 19, 34, 37, 64, and Powerball 22. With no jackpot winner, the prize continues to grow, offering a cash option of $367.9 million before taxes for anyone who hits all six numbers tonight.

It’s been a long dry spell — 38 consecutive drawings without a jackpot winner. If someone wins tonight, they’ll become the fifth jackpot winner of 2025.

The Powerball prize has rocketed to a jaw-dropping $815 million — the seventh-biggest jackpot ever — with Wednesday’s drawing looming.

So far this year, four players have taken home Powerball jackpots:

  • $204.5 million in California (May 31)

  • $167 million in Kentucky (April 26)

  • $526.5 million in California (March 29)

  • $328.5 million in Oregon (January 18)

Even without the jackpot, some players are still scoring big. In last week’s August 23 drawing, a ticket sold at a Stop & Shop in Queens, New York matched five numbers, winning $1 million, according to NBC New York. Two more tickets, bought in Brooklyn and Middleport, earned $50,000 each.

The jackpot carries an estimated cash value of $367.9 million, payable as a lump sum if a winner is drawn Wednesday night.

The Biggest Wins in Powerball History

The top spot still belongs to Edwin Castro of California, who claimed a record-breaking $2.04 billion prize on November 7, 2022, choosing a lump sum of nearly $998 million. Other massive jackpots include:

  • $1.765 billion (October 2023 – California, Florida, Tennessee)

  • $1.586 billion (January 2016 – shared by three states)

  • $1.326 billion (April 2024 – Oregon)

  • $1.08 billion (July 2023 – California)

Rounding out the top 10 are major wins in Michigan, Wisconsin, Massachusetts, Washington, and Maryland.

Where Are the Most Winners?

A study by CSDB.gg found Rhode Island has the highest rate of Powerball winners per capita — about 38.39 winners per 100,000 residents since 1992. New Jersey and New York, by contrast, rank lower, coming in at 31st and 32nd respectively.

Still, the odds remain long: the chance of winning any Powerball prize is 1 in 24.9, while the odds of hitting the jackpot are a daunting 1 in 292.2 million.

Don’t Forget Mega Millions

While Powerball grabs the spotlight tonight, Mega Millions is also heating up. That jackpot is currently estimated at $277 million, with the next drawing set for Friday evening.

A winning ticket would make this the seventh-biggest jackpot ever.
