Fire cadet charged with pummeling ‘cheating’ boyfriend in front of cops

A Boston fire cadet was arrested over the weekend after allegedly assaulting her boyfriend in front of police officers in Quincy, Massachusetts.

Cara Stapleton, a recent graduate of the Boston Fire Academy, is accused of repeatedly striking a man—identified as her boyfriend at the time—while he was lying on the ground outside the Chantey Restaurant on Sunday evening, according to a police report obtained by WCVB.

Officers reportedly witnessed the altercation after Stapleton and the man were removed from a nearby waterfront establishment. The report stated that Stapleton appeared intoxicated, noting a strong odor of alcohol and bloodshot eyes.

“I activated my emergency siren to alert the two parties, and this is when I again witnessed Stapleton open hand slap [the man] in the face,” one officer wrote in the report.

Stapleton allegedly told officers the man had cheated on her, referring to him first as her boyfriend, then correcting herself to say “ex-boyfriend.” She also reportedly asked police to remove her handcuffs, saying she had EMT training the following morning and expressing concern about losing her job.

She has been charged with assault and battery on an intimate partner.
