Jimmy Carter Getting His Own Stamp

The U.S. Postal Service will honor the late President Jimmy Carter with a commemorative Forever stamp, set to be released on October 1 in Atlanta — the day he would have turned 101.

The stamp features a 1982 oil-on-linen portrait of the 39th president by artist Herbert E. Abrams. The artwork, originally created during a live sitting with Carter, also served as a study for his official White House portrait. The stamp design was unveiled Saturday at the Jimmy Carter National Historical Park in Plains, Georgia.

Carter, the longest-living U.S. president, passed away on December 29, 2024.

“The stamp program celebrates the best in American culture, places and people, and it is difficult to consider a more fitting honoree than former President Jimmy Carter,” said Peter Pastre, the Postal Service’s vice president of government relations and public policy.

Ethel Kessler, a longtime art director for USPS, designed the stamp.
