Texas Police Search for Career Criminal They Say Bit Off Man’s Ear During Home Invasion

The Kaufman County Sheriff’s Office is actively searching for 39-year-old Joshua Taylor, who is accused of breaking into a Texas home and biting off part of a man’s ear during a violent assault.

The incident occurred early one Sunday morning this month, when Taylor allegedly entered the home of a 63-year-old man in Kaufman County without permission. Authorities say Taylor physically attacked the man and, during the assault, bit off a large portion of his left earlobe.

“He bit his left earlobe, biting off a large portion,” Investigator Chad Higgins told KDFW-TV. Body camera footage from responding deputies captured the aftermath at the victim’s residence.

This wasn’t the first altercation between the two men. Police confirmed that Taylor reportedly assaulted the same victim in June, though the motive for the attacks remains unclear.

Taylor remains at large and is believed to still be in Kaufman County. He currently faces two active arrest warrants and has a history of prior arrests in the area, according to law enforcement.

“I need the public to tell me where we can find this individual, if they know where he’s at,” Higgins said.

Taylor is described as heavily tattooed, with ink covering one arm and much of his torso. One tattoo, in particular, stands out to investigators: a derogatory phrase about police displayed prominently on his chest.

Anyone with information on Taylor’s whereabouts is urged to contact Investigator Chad Higgins at 972-932-9728 or via email at chad.higgins@kaufmanso.com.

Surprisingly, similar ear-biting incidents have been reported elsewhere. In Lincoln, Nebraska, 26-year-old Erick Hernandez was charged with first-degree assault after allegedly attacking a man with a bicycle pump and biting off part of his ear. Witnesses said Hernandez picked up the severed ear and placed it on the bumper of a nearby trailer after the fight.

In another case, police in Oneonta, New York, arrested 31-year-old Pierce Tobin in May after he allegedly bit off part of a staff member’s ear at the Homer Folks Facility. The altercation reportedly began when Tobin was told he couldn’t smoke. He then punched the staff member before the biting incident. Tobin was taken to the Otsego County Jail following the assault.
