aita for wanting to leave my bf after his political views changed

my boyfriend’s political views have drastically changed, and i can’t see him the same way.

we’ve been together 5 years, and for context are not american. however i’ve always been very left leaning in politics and life, and it’s important to me that my partner shares those sentiments on the majority of large issues.

when i met my bf, i made sure to ask questions to see if we aligned on those political views. he’s never been interested in politics, whereas i am, and that’s alright, but we agreed on all important matters.

during the 2020 election, i even watched him educate and argue with trump-supporters, calling them out on being bigots and fact checking all of their (and trumps) bs. so i never thought this would be an issue.

these past few months ive noticed a change in my bf. gets weird when i bring up the us election, changing the subject and not saying much. even making a few comments that had me side eyeing him, but whatever. then last week i was on his phone (he’d given it to me to write a list), and accidentally saw a text exchange with his friend, where he’s talking about how he actually loves trump, thinks he’s great, would vote for him if he were american, and how he just keeps it to himself around me.

im at a complete loss. i haven’t said anything to him about what i saw, but i just feel sick and so upset. i can’t even look at him the same, and feel like he’s a completely different person than the one i know and have been with. i’m not sure what happened or when he’s changed, but i am genuinely so horrified, and confused about where it all went wrong.

we live together and have a dog, have talked about marriage, kids, buying a house, etc. but i feel like he isn’t the same person.
