Eagle-eyed mom spots suspect wanted for trying to abduct her child from bus stop the day before

An attempted kidnapping in North Carolina was thwarted in part thanks to a mother who helped police identify where a man ran off to after he tried to snatch a child by the arm when they emerged from a school bus this week.
Police first responded to a call on Friday about an attempted child abduction on a residential street just before 5 p.m. in Winston-Salem, NBC affiliate WXII reported.
The location, near the 1300 block of N. Cherry Street, is within the Winston-Salem Forsyth School District. A representative for the school district could not be reached for comment Monday. The district was closed in observance of Martin Luther King Jr.’s Day.
Conrad Jr attempted to grab the child as they were getting off the bus on Friday and claimed to know them, police said. He was only stopped when another adult on site — who actually knew the student — reportedly stepped in.
That appeared to scare Conrad Jr. and police said he fled the scene.
On Saturday around noon, Winston-Salem Police said they received a call that tipped them off to Conrad Jr.’s whereabouts.
The mother of the child who was nearly abducted called them and told them that she had just seen the man who tried to abduct her child the day before, police said. When officers arrived on the scene they reportedly saw Conrad Jr. take off running into his apartment — which is located roughly five minutes away on foot from the site of the attempted kidnapping.
Conrad Jr. assaulted one officer as he was taken into custody, WXII reported.
In addition to the abduction of a child charge, the Winston-Salem man is also charged with assault on a child under 12, assaulting a public officer and assaulting a government official.
