A violent attack in Louisville, Kentucky, has left a man hospitalized after a suspect allegedly targeted him because of his nationality. Authorities say 30-year-old Jeremiah Page faces charges of attempted murder and first-degree assault. He made a court appearance on Tuesday.

The incident occurred Monday around 5:30 p.m. on Preston Highway. According to police documents, Page approached a man on the sidewalk armed with a cleaver. Witnesses and video footage show Page striking the man multiple times, hitting him twice in the head and once in the shoulder.

After the assault, Page fled the scene. Responding officers later located him nearby, still carrying the weapon. Police report that Page was read his Miranda rights and admitted to the attack.

Investigators say Page told them he attacked the man because he was “a foreigner” and claimed the victim was “trespassing on his land.” Reports also indicate that Page asserted he “owned all of Louisville.”

The victim, who does not speak English, was taken to a local hospital with life-threatening injuries. Police confirmed that he remains alive, though no further update on his condition was provided.

During his court appearance, Page’s bond was set at $750,000. He is scheduled to return to court on April 17.
