Iran announced that it has accepted a proposal for a two-week ceasefire, but said the war will only be considered over if a final agreement is reached that meets every part of its 10-point plan. President Trump said Tuesday that he had suspended attacks on Iran for two weeks after receiving what he described as a “workable” proposal from Iran.

According to Iranian state media, the proposal includes coordinated and controlled passage through the Strait of Hormuz under Iranian military oversight, a halt to military operations against Iran and its allied groups, and the withdrawal of U.S. combat forces from bases throughout the region.

Iran’s Supreme National Security Council said in a statement that the ceasefire does not mean the war has ended. The council warned that Iran remains prepared to respond if it believes the agreement is violated, saying its forces remain ready to act if any mistake is made by its opponents.

Tehran is also calling for the removal of all U.S. sanctions, including both primary and secondary sanctions, the release of frozen Iranian funds, and payment of what it described as full compensation to Iran.

In a statement posted on X, Iran’s Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi said that safe passage through the Strait of Hormuz would be allowed for two weeks through coordination with Iran’s armed forces, while also noting technical limitations that could affect transit. Araghchi said Iran would halt military attacks during that period as long as the country is not attacked.

Araghchi also thanked Pakistani Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif for advocating for a ceasefire. Iran said discussions with the United States are expected to begin in Pakistan on Friday.

White House press secretary Karoline Leavitt told CNN that discussions about possible in-person talks are taking place, but said nothing is final until an announcement is made by the President or the White House.
