Wisconsin Woman Charged with First-Degree Homicide After Stabbing 14-Year-Old Daughter to Death to ‘Protect Her from Elon Musk’
A Wisconsin mother, 41-year-old Tyiece Oninski, is facing first-degree intentional homicide charges after fatally stabbing her 14-year-old daughter, Kuren Rein, on March 19. Authorities say Oninski was under the influence of drugs at the time of the attack.
According to court documents filed in Rock County Circuit Court, Oninski told investigators she killed her daughter “to protect her from Elon Musk.”
The tragic incident took place inside a residence in the Town of Turtle.
The following day, Oninski called the non-emergency line of the Rock County Communications Center and confessed to the killing. She told officials she had used a knife to stab her daughter the night before and admitted attempting suicide with the same weapon. Oninski reported that she had lain down next to her daughter’s body after the attack.
First responders arriving at the home discovered Kuren Rein dead from multiple stab wounds.
Law enforcement officials reported that the call lasted long enough for sheriff’s deputies to reach the home before it ended. Oninski was found with self-inflicted injuries, including cuts to her wrists, a stab wound to her neck, and a wound to her temple. She was transported to Beloit Memorial Hospital and later transferred to a hospital in Madison for further treatment.
Kuren Rein’s body was found face down in the back of the house with severe neck lacerations and cuts on both wrists. No defensive wounds were observed, according to the Rock County Medical Examiner. Investigators recovered a knife and its sheath near the scene.
While hospitalized, Oninski allegedly asked a deputy if her name had been mentioned in the news and expressed disappointment when told it had not. A blood test indicated she had benzodiazepines, amphetamines, and THC in her system at the time of the incident.
Kuren Rein, a freshman at Beloit Memorial High School, was remembered by family as cheerful and kind-hearted. Her uncle, Travis Oninski, described her as “very sweet, very kind… always bubbly” and noted that she “seemed to always have a smile on her face.”
Travis recalled speaking with Kuren just days before her death, during which she shared her academic achievements, including maintaining straight A’s. He said, “I was proud of Kuren for doing such a good job, for being able to stay focused… I know that was the last time I ever got the chance to speak with them.”
Tyiece Oninski has been formally charged with first-degree intentional homicide. She is being held on a $1 million cash bond and is scheduled to appear in court on April 14, according to court records.
