Footage released by the House Oversight Committee in June 2024 shows Pelosi taking responsibility for security lapses on January 6. Reports also indicated that she and Washington, D.C. Mayor Muriel Bowser were warned about potential threats the night before and decided not to deploy National Guard troops to the Capitol. Critics have argued that this decision contributed to the vulnerability of the building that day.
The controversy over National Guard deployment continued, with Pelosi denying allegations of refusing assistance, stating that it was not her decision and criticizing questions framed as “Republican talking points.”
