‘I wish to God they would’ve been sharp as f—’: Woman disappointed about ‘dull’ kitchen knives

A 45-year-old woman in Florida is facing serious charges after allegedly attacking her 83-year-old stepfather with blunt kitchen knives and expressing regret that they were not sharp enough to kill him.

Jennifer Gill is accused of second-degree attempted murder in the incident, according to the Marion County Sheriff’s Office.

Authorities say deputies were called to a home around 9 a.m. Saturday after a 911 report of a stabbing. The caller told officers that the victim identified Gill as the assailant. The victim’s wife, who is also Gill’s mother, rushed him to the hospital. Officials reported he sustained multiple injuries, including seven cuts to the back of his head, three to his left hand, and one on his left shoulder.

According to the arrest affidavit, Gill’s mother was asleep when she heard her husband screaming. Upon investigating, she found him covered in blood and severely wounded. She also saw Gill outside using a hose on the victim’s cane. The mother told deputies she did not know the reason for the attack but said her daughter “hates” the stepfather for reasons unknown.

Deputies located Gill nearby and took her into custody. During questioning, she allegedly made vague comments about the victim causing “a lot of pain to people” without offering any specific examples. She admitted there had been “a lot of years of things building up” and said, “Maybe I just acted on things.”

Gill reportedly described the victim as trying to resolve conflicts and following her around. She allegedly stated she “didn’t want to have to do it” but decided she “might as well just try”—referring to killing him. She admitted previously telling him, “I should have killed you already.”

According to authorities, Gill claimed she sprayed soapy water in the victim’s eyes to distract him and then began striking him with the knives, which she described as “very dull.” When the victim attempted to get up from a chair, she allegedly pushed him back down and later used his cane to continue the assault. She reportedly said, “I know it’s not nice to say, but from doing it, I wish to God they would’ve been sharp as f—.”

Family members disputed Gill’s claims that the victim was abusive, describing him instead as gentle, quiet, and physically limited due to a bad knee.

The victim was last reported in stable condition at the hospital.

Gill remains in the Marion County Jail without bond, with her next court appearance scheduled for April 21.
