Ex-CIA director slammed for saying he believes Iran more than Trump: ‘Terrorists over the USA’
Former CIA Director John Brennan faced widespread criticism Tuesday from the White House and social media after suggesting that Iran is more credible than President Trump regarding ongoing negotiations.
Brennan, who was one of the 51 former intelligence officials behind a widely publicized letter asserting that The Post’s reporting on Hunter Biden’s laptop emails was part of a “Russian information operation,” questioned Trump’s claim that talks with Tehran were underway to end the conflict. He made the remarks during an appearance on MS NOW Monday.
Iran has denied holding discussions with the Trump administration. During the segment, host Symone Sanders, pointing out her skepticism of Iran as “an authoritarian regime that’s known to lie,” asked Brennan for his perspective. He replied, “Well, I tend to believe Iran more than I do Donald Trump.”

Brennan also accused Trump of “flailing” and suggested the president is unlikely to reach agreements with anyone “speaking authoritatively right now on behalf of the Iranian government.” Brennan, who is currently under criminal investigation for his alleged involvement in what some call a “treasonous conspiracy” to push claims of collusion between Trump’s 2016 campaign and Russia, drew sharp rebukes for prioritizing Iran’s statements over the president’s.
White House spokeswoman Anna Kelly criticized Brennan’s comments, saying, “Believing a terrorist regime that has chanted ‘Death to America’ for decades over the United States of America is shameful and a clear case of Trump Derangement Syndrome.”

Patrick Adams, a White House aide, added on X, “John Brennan backs the word of Iranian regime terrorists over the United States of America.” Social media users echoed the sentiment, with one commenting, “If John Brennan says he doesn’t trust Trump, that actually makes me want to trust Trump!” The user referenced Brennan’s past involvement in the “Russiagate” controversy and the group known as the “51 Spies Who Lie.”
Conservative commentator Steve Guest called Brennan’s statements “beyond parody” and accused him of defending “the world’s leading sponsor of terror.” He added, “John Brennan’s case of TDS is unmatched.”
Steven Bucci, visiting fellow at the Heritage Foundation, weighed in, stating, “No one (in their right mind) believes Brennan about anything.”

Meanwhile, the Trump administration sent Iran a 15-point plan on Tuesday aimed at ending the conflict. President Trump has asserted that Iran has already agreed to the most significant part of the plan: halting its nuclear program.
