Exorcist Priest Warns Against Using Ouija Boards: ‘Demons Lie and Impersonate Dead People’
Ouija boards, commonly marketed in the United States as a harmless game, are being called a serious spiritual risk by a Catholic priest and trained exorcist.
Father Dan Reehil, who serves in the Diocese of Nashville, warns that using a Ouija board can allow demons to pose as the spirits of deceased individuals. In his view, these interactions are not innocent entertainment and can, in extreme cases, lead to possession.
In an interview with Fox News Digital, Reehil explained, “We often overlook the reality that there is more to this world than what we see. Angels, demons, spirits, and souls exist, and they can influence our lives.”

Father Reehil underwent formal exorcism training at the Ateneo Pontificio Regina Apostolorum in Rome in 2018. That same year, he was officially appointed as the exorcist for the Diocese of Nashville. He cautions that engaging in occult practices, such as attempting to communicate with the dead through a Ouija board, can inadvertently open individuals to demonic activity.

“Demons lie and mimic deceased people,” Reehil said. “Whether someone is seeking guidance about a loved one who has passed or making a life decision, a demon can exploit that opening. Simply using a Ouija board invites these forces into your life, intentionally or not.”
The Ouija board, originally introduced in the late 19th century as a “talking board” for parlor games, has become a staple in popular culture and seasonal activities like Halloween. Reehil emphasizes that despite its playful reputation, it carries genuine spiritual risks.
