Campaign kicks off to rename SF’s Cesar Chavez Street after Chuck Norris

A campaign is underway in San Francisco to rename the street currently dedicated to Cesar Chavez in honor of action star Chuck Norris.

Stephen M. Pinto, who previously ran for San Francisco District Supervisor, unveiled the proposal on X with a mock-up of a street sign reading “Chuck Norris Boulevard.” Pinto urged residents to support the effort through a petition.

“Join us in renaming Cesar Chavez Street to Chuck Norris Boulevard,” he wrote. The push comes amid statewide efforts to remove monuments and honors for Chavez, following shocking allegations that he sexually abused two girls starting at age 12 and assaulted his longtime associate, Dolores Huerta.

Pinto’s petition stated, “Given the recent revelations about Cesar Chavez’s behavior, many in the community believe his name should no longer be celebrated. We feel that Carlos Ray ‘Chuck’ Norris deserves recognition, and that his name should replace Chavez’s on this street, formerly known as Army Street.”

Chuck Norris passed away this week at the age of 86 after being hospitalized in Hawaii due to a medical emergency. Born in Oklahoma, he moved to Los Angeles at age 12 and later built a chain of karate schools before achieving fame as a Hollywood action star.

“Cities across the country honor their icons—Milwaukee has Fonzie, Detroit has RoboCop. San Francisco should have Chuck Norris Boulevard,” Pinto said in a video accompanying the petition. “The time is right. Let’s make it happen.”
