A video clip circulating on social media after the passing of legendary action star and martial artist Chuck Norris highlights remarks he made years ago about leaving the Democrat Party and becoming a Republican.
Norris, widely known for his role in Walker, Texas Ranger and a long list of action films, once explained in an interview why his political views shifted. “I used to be a Democrat, but unfortunately the Democrats went too far to the left and lost all reality of what America stood for,” he said.
He added that his views eventually aligned more closely with Republicans. “I realized that Republicans are more focused on what is best for America,” Norris said.
During the interview, Norris also suggested that the political parties had effectively reversed positions over time. “What the Democrats believed forty years ago, the Republicans believe today,” he said. “The Democrats just got too far off the trail. They completely lost sight of what America stood for.”
The interview was conducted in 2014, but the clip has resurfaced and spread widely online following news of his passing.
Norris had long spoken publicly about his support for traditional American values, a strong national defense, and individual liberty. Those views, he said, were part of the reason he ultimately left the Democratic Party.
The Norris family confirmed his death in a statement posted to Instagram on Friday.

“It is with heavy hearts that our family shares the sudden passing of our beloved Chuck Norris yesterday morning,” the statement read. “While we would like to keep the circumstances private, please know that he was surrounded by his family and was at peace.”
The family described him not only as a martial artist and actor admired around the world, but as a devoted husband, father, grandfather, and brother.
“He lived his life with faith, purpose, and an unwavering commitment to the people he loved,” the statement continued. “Through his work, discipline, and kindness, he inspired millions around the world and left a lasting impact on so many lives.”
They also expressed gratitude for the support Norris received from fans throughout his career.
“While our hearts are broken, we are deeply grateful for the life he lived and for the unforgettable moments we were blessed to share with him,” the family said. “The love and support he received from fans around the world meant so much to him. To him, you were not just fans, you were his friends.”
The statement also acknowledged the prayers and messages sent after reports of his recent hospitalization.
“As we grieve this loss, we kindly ask for privacy for our family during this time,” the family said.
An official cause of death has not yet been announced.
