Young NASCAR Driver Indefinitely Suspended for Using “Gay Voice” to Mock Driver During Livestream
NASCAR has indefinitely suspended 22-year-old driver Daniel Dye after he mocked another driver using a “gay voice” during a livestream.
The incident occurred while Dye, who drives the No. 10 Kaulig Racing truck in the NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series, was opening trading cards and commenting on NTT IndyCar Series driver David Malukas. NASCAR officials determined that Dye’s remarks were offensive and violated the organization’s rules against public statements that disparage someone based on characteristics such as sexual orientation.
Under Section 4.3.C of the NASCAR Rule Book, members are prohibited from making statements that criticize or ridicule another person because of race, gender, religion, sexual orientation, or other protected categories. Dye’s comments were deemed to fall under this violation.

As part of the suspension, Dye must complete sensitivity training before being allowed to compete again. Kaulig Racing also acted swiftly, suspending Dye immediately upon learning of his social media comments. To fill in for Dye, AJ Allmendinger, who drives full-time for Kaulig Racing in the Cup Series, will take the wheel for Friday’s race at Darlington Raceway. Allmendinger has 14 previous Truck Series starts, with his most recent in 2021 at Watkins Glen International.
Following the suspension, Daniel Dye issued a public apology to the LGBTQ community, acknowledging the harm his words caused.
“I chose my words poorly and I understand why it upset people,” Dye said. “I’m sorry to anyone who was offended. That’s not how I want to represent myself.”
He added, “I have close friends in the LGBTQ community who would never want to feel diminished because of what I said, and that’s why I need to hold myself to a higher standard.”
