Woman says she was horrifically violated at Abercrombie and Fitch — shares photos

A shopper says she was stunned to discover a maintenance worker positioned above the ceiling of a fitting room while she was undressed inside an Abercrombie & Fitch store in Bakersfield.

Vanessa Escobar shared a photo that appears to show a man working in the ceiling area above the dressing rooms while she was changing clothes. According to Escobar, she noticed the worker when she looked up and realized he could potentially see into the changing areas.

Speaking with ABC23, Escobar explained that even if the worker could not look directly into the fitting room, the layout of the mirrors made it possible for him to see reflections from inside. She said the mirror in front of her could have allowed someone above the ceiling space to view what was happening inside the room without looking straight down. Because the fitting rooms are arranged in the same direction, she believed the same situation could apply to multiple changing rooms.

Escobar said the moment left her unsettled and upset. She recalled approaching a store employee after realizing the worker was above the fitting room area. According to her account, the employee acknowledged the situation but said there was nothing she could do about it.

Escobar said she tried to explain that customers were actively changing clothes and that the worker could potentially see inside the fitting rooms. She stated that at the time she noticed him, she was completely undressed.

Abercrombie & Fitch has not publicly commented on the incident. Escobar said the experience was disturbing enough that she does not plan to return to the Bakersfield store.

Valley Plaza, the shopping center where the store is located, told ABC23 that the maintenance worker seen in the ceiling area was not employed by the mall.
