New York City police say they have identified a man suspected of carrying out a string of small bank robberies across several boroughs. Authorities accuse 33-year-old Gustavo DeJesus Torres of robbing six Chase Bank branches within a five-day span in Queens, Manhattan, Brooklyn, and the Bronx.

Investigators say Torres approached tellers and handed over notes threatening harm if cash was not provided. However, police said he never indicated that he actually had a weapon. Despite the number of incidents, the amount of money taken was relatively small.

According to the NYPD, the largest amount he obtained was $320 from a branch in Jackson Heights. Another robbery in Flatbush brought in $265, and a Harlem location yielded just $20. In three other attempted robberies, police say he left empty-handed, fleeing the scene on foot.

One surveillance image released by investigators shows a man believed to be Torres standing on a subway platform between robberies, holding a cup of coffee and appearing to blend in with other commuters.

Police also believe he may be connected to additional bank robberies. Authorities noted that Torres had previously been arrested last month in connection with a separate robbery in the TriBeCa area.
