A former administrator at an Oregon high school has been sentenced to prison after admitting to crimes involving illegal images of minors.

Jeremy P. Williams, who once served as principal of Rainier Junior-Senior High School, received a five-year prison sentence on Feb. 23. According to reporting from The Daily News in Longview, Washington, Williams previously pleaded guilty to three counts connected to possessing sexually explicit images involving minors.

In addition to the prison term, the court ordered Williams to register as a sex offender for 15 years. After completing his sentence, he must also serve 36 months under community custody supervision.

Authorities said the investigation began after the Cowlitz County Sheriff’s Office received reports from the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children on Aug. 28. Those tips indicated the possible presence of child sexual abuse material connected to Williams. When the case was first filed, prosecutors brought 13 charges related to child pornography.

Before the criminal case concluded, the Rainier School District had already placed Williams on suspension because of remarks he made following the assassination of Turning Point USA founder Charlie Kirk. Officials did not publicly disclose the details of those comments.

The Rainier School District did not immediately respond when contacted for comment about the sentencing.

After Kirk’s assassination, reactions across social media drew widespread attention. Posts on several platforms, including BlueSky, included messages that celebrated or mocked the killing. The backlash led to consequences for several public figures, including MSNBC political analyst Matthew Dowd and Washington Post columnist Karen Attiah, who both lost their positions.

Reactions within education circles also sparked controversy. A Texas affiliate of the American Federation of Teachers filed a lawsuit in January seeking permission for members to mock Kirk’s death. In October, a school in Rhode Island restricted parent access to a teacher’s curriculum after the teacher mocked the assassination, placing a fee of more than $100,000 on requests to view the materials.

Turning Point USA has reported a surge of interest since Kirk’s death. The organization says more than 100,000 people have inquired about starting chapters, including high school groups known as Club America. Efforts to create these clubs have faced opposition in some areas.

In Royal Oak, Michigan, critics argued against the school board’s decision to allow a Club America chapter to operate. In Albemarle County, Virginia, a school board member faced criticism after comparing Turning Point USA to the Ku Klux Klan. Meanwhile, in Prince William County, Virginia, school officials pushed back against the creation of a Club America chapter at Patriot High School, prompting a parent to challenge the school board during a public meeting.
