A well-known phone number from pop music history is being put to use for a new purpose. Tommy Heath, the lead singer of the band Tommy Tutone, has teamed up with the Cancer Support Community and Gilda’s Club to transform the famous number from the 1981 song “867-5309/Jenny” into a helpline for people impacted by cancer.
According to People, anyone who calls CSC-867-5309, which corresponds to 272-867-5309, will reach trained specialists who can provide guidance, emotional support, and help finding cancer-related resources. Sally Werner, CEO of the Cancer Support Community, said the service is designed to connect callers with reliable information and compassionate assistance.
Heath, now 78, said the idea is personal for him. Several members of his family have faced cancer, and he is currently dealing with a minor case of skin cancer himself. He explained that he wanted to give something meaningful back to the fans who have supported his music for decades. Heath hopes the recognizable number will encourage people to reach out when they need help, thinking that someone will be there to support them.
He said he would be proud if the project became a lasting legacy—one that brings hope to people and perhaps even makes them smile during a difficult time.
Fans of the song may also get a chance to hear it performed again, as Heath plans to tour this summer. The track originally climbed to No. 4 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart in 1982 and remains one of the most memorable one-hit wonders in pop music history.
