Authorities in Queensland, Australia are investigating a serious incident at a childcare facility after a baby was injured.
The case involves a 10-month-old child at Active Kids Early Learning Laidley 2 Centre, also known as Free Range Kids Laidley 2 Centre, located in the Lockyer Valley. The incident happened on Feb. 24. Images provided to The Chronicle show that the tip of the infant’s right ring finger had been completely severed. It remains unclear how the injury occurred.

Officials from the Department of Education confirmed that the matter is under active investigation. A spokesperson stated that ensuring the health, safety, and wellbeing of children in early education settings is the top priority for the Queensland Early Childhood Regulatory Authority. The spokesperson added that the authority is aware of the case, which involved a child suffering a finger injury that required medical treatment, but said no additional details can be released while the investigation continues.

The Regulatory Authority is continuing its work with childcare providers across Queensland to maintain and improve safety and quality standards.
Active Kids Early Learning, which operates three centres in the Lockyer Valley, was contacted for comment. The privately owned provider has been operating in Queensland for more than 15 years. Owned by the Campbell family, the organization describes itself as a community-oriented, family-style childcare service rather than a large corporate chain.
