Off-duty NYPD captain charged after pummeling alleged sex creep
A New York City police officer was arrested after allegedly attacking a man accused of sexually abusing a teenage relative, authorities said.
Capt. Kai Bowen, 42, reportedly confronted 67-year-old Mahadeo Narain, throwing him to the ground and repeatedly striking him with his fists. Bowen is accused of kicking Narain in the leg and attempting to choke him, according to a criminal complaint.
Bowen was taken into custody in Queens last Wednesday and charged with second-degree assault, criminal obstruction of breathing, and harassment. Narain sustained facial lacerations, shoulder marks, and bruising on his leg, and was treated at Jamaica Hospital for his injuries, prosecutors said.

The alleged victim, a 15-year-old girl, had been the target of Narain’s criminal behavior just a day earlier. He was charged in a separate complaint with forcible touching, sexual abuse in the third degree, and endangering the welfare of a child. Authorities claim Narain groped the girl and tried to kiss her. Sources told PIX 11 that the girl is believed to be related to Bowen.
Bowen was released on his own recognizance and is scheduled to appear in court on April 27. His attorney, Keith Welz, said, “We’re confident that Kai did nothing criminal and at the end of the day, when the facts come out, the public will understand what happened here.”
Narain was placed on supervised release and is subject to an order of protection barring contact with the teenage girl. He is due back in court on May 6.
