A simple coffee delivery in Tennessee has turned into a major act of generosity for an elderly driver.
Brittany Smith of Manchester noticed something unusual when reviewing footage from her Ring doorbell camera. The man delivering her Starbucks order appeared to be older and seemed to be having a difficult time. Curious about his situation, Smith took to social media asking for help identifying him. In her post she wrote, “Y’all, help me find this precious man! Why is he having to DoorDash?”
People online quickly helped track down the driver, identified only as Richard. Smith learned that he had returned to work delivering for DoorDash after retiring because his wife had recently lost her job.
An elderly man named Richard came out of retirement to deliver food for DoorDash because he and his wife were struggling to pay their bills.

Moved by the situation, Smith decided to start a GoFundMe fundraiser to help the couple cover everyday expenses and medical costs. She explained in the fundraiser that Richard was not working because he wanted to, and said the goal was to help him retire again without financial worry.
The story quickly spread across social media, drawing thousands of donations from people who wanted to help. By Friday morning, the fundraiser had grown to more than $500,000.
Smith said the outpouring of support has been overwhelming. Her hope, she explained, is that the donations will give Richard enough financial stability so he can stop doing gig work and enjoy retirement again.
