William Shatner To Undergo Surgery After Horrific Fall Off Horse

William Shatner is preparing to have shoulder surgery on March 11 following a serious accident involving one of his horses.

The legendary “Star Trek” actor said the injury happened in late 2025 when he was thrown from a horse, leaving his right shoulder shattered. Shatner, who will celebrate his 95th birthday later in March, spoke about the upcoming operation on Sunday while attending the 53rd annual Saturn Awards hosted by the Academy of Science Fiction, Fantasy and Horror Films in Burbank, California.

During the event, Shatner accepted a Hall of Fame honor on behalf of the “Star Trek” franchise. While speaking with members of the media, he asked to sit down, explaining that he was feeling worn out and dealing with pain.

Shatner described how the accident occurred while riding horses trained for competitive equine skills, a discipline that involves high speed followed by a sudden sliding stop. According to him, the horse he owned had a tendency to drift slightly to the side during the maneuver.

While performing the routine, the horse moved too quickly and off balance, causing Shatner to be thrown.

Drawing on his past experience performing stunt work, the actor attempted to fall in a way that would reduce the impact. However, he said that at his age he could not absorb the fall the way he once could. Although he tried to roll as he hit the ground, his shoulder struck the dirt and was badly damaged.

Shatner explained that doctors have scheduled him for what he described as a newer type of shoulder procedure known as a reverse shoulder replacement. He said the operation involves switching the ball and socket parts of the joint and that the surgery can take many hours, with the goal of relieving pain once recovery is complete.

The actor also addressed a health scare from September at his home in Los Angeles. Reports at the time suggested the incident was related to his blood sugar levels. Shatner later said the situation was not serious and explained that he had simply overindulged. He thanked fans for their concern and said the incident had been exaggerated.
