Reports of possible Bigfoot encounters are drawing attention in northeastern Ohio, where several sightings have been reported in recent days.

According to the Bigfoot Society, at least seven separate sightings have been reported across the region since Friday. Many of the accounts are clustered between Akron and Youngstown, particularly in Portage County, an area known for dense woods and rural stretches.

One of the most recent reports came Monday evening in Streetsboro. The woman who described the encounter said she had not seen any of the other reports before coming forward.

Jeremiah Byron of the Bigfoot Society said the witness told them she and her daughter were driving near the Tinkers Creek area when they noticed a tall, thin, brown figure in the roadway.

The figure, described as about six and a half feet tall, was moving in the opposite direction of traffic and briefly appeared directly in their lane.

According to Byron, the witness said the creature passed so close to their vehicle that her daughter could have reached out and touched it. The woman was reportedly so shaken by what she saw that she refused to turn around and drive back through the area. Byron added that the witness does not normally follow Bigfoot stories or consider herself a believer.

Despite the number of reports, none of the people claiming to have seen the creature captured photos or videos. Local authorities have also not received any official reports related to the sightings, according to the Canton Repository.

Online, some people reacted skeptically, pointing out that smartphones with high-quality cameras are common, yet no images have surfaced.

Still, members of the Bigfoot Society say the pattern of reports could suggest something unusual. They believe the sightings appear to be moving gradually east across the region.

The group has suggested what it calls a “Green Highway” theory. Based on the locations of the reports, they believe the creatures may be traveling along the Headwaters Trail greenbelt, which provides a continuous stretch of wooded land.

They also note that the witnesses have described figures ranging from about six feet to as tall as ten feet, with fur colors varying from brown to black. Because of those differences, the group believes the reports may involve more than one creature, possibly even a family moving through the area.

The first sighting was reported Friday, when someone claimed to have seen a roughly nine-foot-tall figure during daylight before it ran off after being noticed. The following night, another person reported hearing grunting sounds from an eight-foot creature in a wooded area around 11 p.m., and a footprint was allegedly discovered nearby.

Several more reports followed over the next few days through Tuesday morning. In one case, witnesses said their German shepherd began trembling after encountering what they believed was the creature in their backyard.

Supporters of the sightings also point out that animals often react strongly to things humans cannot easily detect. Many animals have far stronger senses of smell and hearing than people do, and they can become anxious or defensive when something unfamiliar is nearby. Dogs in particular are known to react quickly to unusual scents or movement in the woods, which some believers say could explain why pets and wildlife sometimes appear uneasy during these reported encounters.

Not everyone is convinced the sightings are legitimate. Some observers joked online that even if Bigfoot were real, northeastern Ohio might not be the easiest place for it to remain hidden.

One commenter joked that the creature probably would not make it very far past Youngstown.
