A former Washington, D.C. Metropolitan Police Department (MPD) officer whose name appears on a controversial Capitol plaque honoring law enforcement’s response to the January 6, 2021 protests has been charged in a superseding indictment with multiple felony offenses, including rape, sodomy, and abduction.

Timothy Valentin is currently in custody and facing numerous felony charges.

According to Alexandria police, Valentin was first indicted by a grand jury in December and was indicted again Monday morning in three additional cases.

Authorities say Valentin now faces the following charges in Alexandria:

  • Four counts of rape by force

  • Four counts of rape by incapacitation

  • Two counts of adulteration

  • Two counts of sodomy

  • Two counts of abduction with intent to defile

  • Two counts of sodomy by force or incapacitation

  • One count of aggravated sexual battery by incapacitation

  • Fifteen counts of unlawful filming

Valentin joined the Metropolitan Police Department in 2016 and served as a patrol officer during the events of January 6. He left the department in 2022. Investigators say the alleged crimes took place in 2024 and 2025.

According to investigators, Valentin allegedly targeted women he met through dating apps. Police say he would invite them out for drinks and then drug and assault them after they became incapacitated.

Victims have been identified in several locations, including:

  • Alexandria, Virginia

  • Prince George’s County, Maryland

  • Takoma Park, Maryland

Investigators believe nearly a dozen women may have been targeted.

Authorities say Valentin currently faces charges connected to four victims in Alexandria. Six victims have been identified in Prince George’s County, where charges have been filed in three of those cases. Another investigation remains ongoing in Takoma Park.

Court documents obtained by NBC Washington describe details from the case that led to Valentin’s arrest in December. Prosecutors said at a bond hearing that Valentin allegedly took a victim to a bar in Old Town Alexandria, where both consumed drinks.

According to the documents, the woman reported that when she returned from the restroom, she saw Valentin stirring something into her drink. She later lost consciousness in his car and told police she woke up while he was assaulting her.

Testing later showed the presence of bromazolam, a sedative, in the victim’s system. Valentin’s attorney has argued that the encounter in that case was consensual.

Court records also state that when detectives searched Valentin’s vehicle, they found a law enforcement badge, a firearm, prescription receipts, condoms, and two bags containing a white powdery substance.

List of police officers and personnel, including names and ranks, organized in a clear format for reference.

Investigators also reported finding dozens of videos on Valentin’s phone that appeared to show him engaged in sexual acts with women who seemed intoxicated or incapacitated. Police declined to say how many individuals appeared in the recordings.

Valentin’s name also appears on a controversial January 6 memorial plaque recognizing law enforcement officers connected to the events of that day. The plaque was authorized by Congress through a provision included in the Consolidated Appropriations Act of 2022.

The measure was sponsored by Representative Hakeem Jeffries of New York. The plaque later became the subject of political debate in Congress.

House Speaker Mike Johnson of Louisiana previously worked to delay its installation in the House. However, a Senate resolution supported by Senators Jeff Merkley of Oregon and Thom Tillis of North Carolina resulted in the plaque being displayed in the Senate wing.

Next to the plaque is a QR code that links to a list of officers recognized as “heroes.” Valentin’s name appears on that list maintained by the Architect of the Capitol.
