Putin declares ‘unwavering support’ for Iran’s new supreme leader Ayatollah Mojtaba Khamenei
Russian President Vladimir Putin declared “unwavering support” for Iran as he congratulated Ayatollah Mojtaba Khamenei on being selected as the Islamic Republic’s new leader.
Putin sent a telegram to Khamenei — the son of slain Iranian leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei — on Monday, promising that the Kremlin would remain a “reliable partner” to Iran during the ongoing war.

“At a time when Iran is opposing armed aggression, your tenure in this high post will undoubtedly require great courage and dedication,” Putin wrote in his message. “I am sure that you will honorably continue your father’s work and unite the Iranian people.”

Khamenei has already been dismissed by President Trump as a “lightweight.” He was chosen as the regime’s new leader just eight days after his 86-year-old father was killed in U.S.–Israeli strikes on his Tehran compound as Operation Epic Fury began.
