Disturbed man dies after allegedly cutting off his penis in bloody DTLA scene
A man died early Saturday morning after an incident in downtown Los Angeles, according to police and witnesses.
The situation unfolded around 3:40 a.m. near the intersection of Figueroa Street and Pico Boulevard, across from the Los Angeles Convention Center. Officers with the Los Angeles Police Department responded to reports of a man harming himself in the area.
Emergency responders arrived shortly afterward and pronounced the man dead at the scene.
Authorities said they are still working to determine what led to the incident. The man’s identity has not yet been released, and officials said the LA County Medical Examiner will confirm his identity and determine the exact cause of death.
Video from the scene showed investigators placing a white tent over the body while officers secured the area. Police closed part of the roadway nearby with yellow tape and flares as they conducted their investigation.
Witnesses at the scene reported that the man had removed some of his clothing while walking toward a nearby 7-Eleven before collapsing.
The investigation remains ongoing.
