Two young students were arrested just one day apart this week in Volusia County, Florida, after allegedly making violent threats toward classmates and teachers.

Anthony Steward, 11, and Micah Swinnie, 10, were taken into custody by the Volusia Sheriff’s Office for allegedly threatening to kill others at their schools. Steward, a student at DeLand Middle School, reportedly accessed a classmate’s Gradebook Communications account and sent the message “imma shoot you” to seven teachers, according to authorities.

Video shared on Facebook Thursday showed Steward remaining stone-faced as he was escorted into the sheriff’s office. When an officer placed handcuffs on him, the boy complained they felt “real tight,” prompting the officer to remind him that the situation could have been avoided by not making threats in the first place.

This marked Steward’s second arrest. In October, he was arrested for sending similar threats through another classmate’s Gradebook Communications account at Southwestern Middle School.

Swinnie, a student at Pride Elementary School, was arrested Wednesday after reportedly leaving a note listing people he intended to harm on a classroom desk and writing a promise to bring a gun to school on a whiteboard. While exiting the police car with his hands cuffed behind his back, Swinnie said, “It feels like a confinement in there.” His parent told police he does not have access to firearms.

Swinnie was held on a felony charge of making a written threat to kill, though it is unclear if formal charges will be filed. Both boys were wearing school spirit apparel when taken into custody.

Volusia County Sheriff Mike Chitwood criticized adults who “coddle” children who make threats. “You can pat them on the head and tell them everything’s going to be alright. My job is to look out for everyone else. These idiotic threats disrupt our schools, eat up time and resources, and increase the chances a real threat slips through the cracks,” Chitwood wrote.

He added, “If you can threaten to shoot 7 teachers you can take a perp walk. Parents, discipline your kids and I won’t have to.”
