Grisly mystery as woman’s dog-bitten body discovered in homeless camp

A woman’s body was discovered at a Los Angeles homeless encampment, showing signs of dog bites.

Police were called to the scene on the 1100 block of West 87th Street in South Los Angeles late Wednesday night, following a report from a nearby resident. Officers from the Los Angeles Sheriff’s Department arrived around 11:40 p.m.

LASD Homicide Lt. Steven De Jong told Fox 11 that it is not yet clear whether the woman, who has not been identified and was in her 30s, was bitten before or after her death. The Los Angeles County Medical Examiner will determine the official cause of death.

Authorities were seen securing the scene with police tape, while animal control and the Los Angeles County Fire Department also responded. A brown puppy was later spotted being carried away by an officer.

This incident comes nearly two months after former NFL player Kevin Johnson was found murdered in a South LA encampment near Compton Creek. Police have suggested he may have been the victim of a serial killer who killed three others in the same area.
