Authorities in Austin released body-camera footage Thursday from officers who responded to a mass shooting early Sunday morning on the city’s Sixth Street entertainment district.
Police say the gunman, Ndiaga Diagne, a 53-year-old immigrant from Senegal who lived in nearby Pflugerville and had become a naturalized U.S. citizen during the Obama administration, opened fire outside Buford’s Bar on West Sixth Street. The shooting left three people dead and 14 others injured.
Emergency officials said the first call reporting gunfire came in at 1:59 a.m., according to Austin EMS Chief Robert Luckritz. Of the 14 victims transported to hospitals, three were initially reported in critical condition.
Investigators said Diagne was wearing a sweatshirt with the words “Property of Allah.” Police also reported finding a Quran inside his vehicle.

Officers responding to the scene shot and killed the suspect.
Body-camera video released by the Austin Police Department shows people running from the area as the gunfire erupted. Audio from emergency dispatch calls captured the urgency of the moment.
“There’s people shot. We need help right now,” one caller told 911 dispatchers.
Officials said the shooting occurred shortly after reports that Iran’s Supreme Leader and more than 40 senior Iranian officials had been killed in a U.S. military operation called Operation Epic Fury.
On Wednesday, Jose Garza announced that the Travis County District Attorney’s Office had completed its review of the incident and will not pursue charges against the three officers who shot Diagne.
In a statement, the office said:
“Today, the Travis County District Attorney’s Office notified the Austin Police Department that it has formally concluded its review of the mass shooting on 6th Street and will take no action against the three officers who stopped the shooting.”
The investigation into the events surrounding the shooting remains part of the official case record released by police.
