MAGA Rejoices In Jasmine Crockett Losing Texas Primary

Supporters of President Donald Trump celebrated online after State Representative James Talarico defeated Congresswoman Jasmine Crockett in the closely watched Texas Democratic primary for the U.S. Senate.

MAGA influencer Nick Sortor wrote on X that Crockett will leave Congress after this year because she gave up her House seat to run for Senate. “Jasmine had to decline reelection for her current seat in the U.S. House in order to run for Senate, so she’ll be OUT after this year,” he wrote.

The conservative Libs of TikTok account also commented on the result, posting that Crockett “basically gave up her seat to run for Senate… and she just lost the Democrat Senate primary.”

Some Trump supporters celebrated Crockett’s defeat even before The Associated Press officially called the race early Wednesday.

Talarico will now advance toward the general election. His Republican opponent will be determined in a May runoff after neither longtime Senator John Cornyn nor Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton received a majority of the vote in the Republican Senate primary.

Why It Matters

Texas, along with North Carolina and Arkansas, launched the midterm election season with primary elections on Tuesday. Control of Congress is at stake in the upcoming elections.

Democrats have not won a U.S. Senate race in Texas since 1988, which makes Talarico a significant underdog heading into November. However, Democratic leaders argue that changing suburban demographics and possible divisions among Republicans could make the race more competitive.

What to Know

Talarico’s victory came amid confusion over polling locations during the Democratic Senate primary.

Voting hours were extended in Dallas County and Williamson County, near Austin, after voters reported being turned away and directed to different polling places due to new primary rules.

Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton’s office later challenged a judge’s decision to keep the polls open longer. The Texas Supreme Court ruled that ballots cast by voters who were not already in line by 7 p.m. must be separated from the rest.

Crockett’s campaign said it plans to sue over voting issues in Dallas County. She briefly addressed supporters Tuesday night, warning that “people have been disenfranchised.” During a news conference, she also suggested that “cheating” may have taken place.

Those comments drew criticism from some Trump supporters online.

“I thought questioning election results was a threat to our democracy and it’s impossible for any cheating to happen?!” the Libs of TikTok account wrote on X.

What People Are Saying

Talarico told supporters before the race was officially called:
“This is proof that there is something happening in Texas. Tonight, the people of our state gave this country a little bit of hope, and a little bit of hope is a dangerous thing.”

Crockett told supporters Tuesday night:
“We’re not going to have election results tonight, in my opinion, based upon what specifically is taking place in Dallas County. Unfortunately, this is what Republicans like to do. They specifically targeted Dallas County, and I think we all know why.”

Nick Sortor posted on X:
“Jasmine Crockett has lost the Democratic primary for U.S. Senate in Texas, putting an end to her career in Congress. Jasmine had to decline reelection for her current seat in the U.S. House in order to run for Senate, so she’ll be out after this year. Bye!”

The MAGA Voice account on X, which has more than 1.4 million followers, also reacted to the result, writing:
“It’s official: Decision Desk projects Jasmine Crockett loses her Democrat primary. I love this.”

What Happens Next

Talarico will move on to the November general election, where Democrats are hoping for an upset as they seek their first Senate victory in Texas since 1988.
