Israeli spies spent years hacking every camera in Tehran to monitor Ayatollah Ali Khamenei
Israeli intelligence reportedly spent years hacking nearly all traffic cameras across Tehran to monitor Iranian Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei before he was killed, according to a Financial Times report.
The surveillance included cameras aimed directly at Khamenei’s heavily guarded compound, allowing Mossad to compile detailed intelligence files that helped plan Saturday’s lethal strikes, multiple sources said.

“We knew Tehran like we know Jerusalem,” an Israeli intelligence official told the Financial Times. “When you know a place as well as the street you grew up on, you notice anything that’s out of place.”
The sources said the footage helped Mossad track the routines of Khamenei’s security team, including parking spots, home addresses, and their protective assignments. This information was reportedly part of the intelligence used to execute the strikes on Khamenei’s Tehran compound while a major meeting of Iranian security officials was underway.

The operation had been planned for months, but the timing was reportedly adjusted once it was confirmed that Khamenei would be present in person. President Trump authorized the mission, known as “Operation Epic Fury,” and the traffic cameras reportedly confirmed the meeting schedule. Fighter jets carried out the strikes in broad daylight, destroying Khamenei’s compound and killing the cleric along with dozens of officials and some members of his family.
