LARGO, Fla. (WFLA) — Twin sisters were arrested last week after throwing their pet chihuahua out of the window of a moving car as it traveled down a Largo roadway, according to an arrest affidavit.
On Jan. 22, 54-year-old Tracey Fitzgerald and her twin sister Stacey were in an SUV travelling about 50 mph down a road in Largo.
Tracey was driving, while Stacey, the dog’s owner, was in the passenger’s seat.
As the car moved along the road, police said that Tracey threw the chihuahua out of the front passenger-side window.
A witness identified Tracey as the one who tossed the dog and told police that the chihuahua was thrown approximately 5 feet from the vehicle, landing on the sidewalk.
The chihuahua, a three-pound 16-year-old named “Princess,” sustained multiple injuries, including leaking blood out of her eye, “acute blunt force trauma,” and abrasions that exposed “vulnerable parts of her cranium,” as stated in an arrest affidavit.
Princess was taken to the Tampa Bay Veterinary Specialists & Emergency Care Center, where, according to the animal control report, Stacey refused medical treatment and life-saving measures.
The Pinellas County Sheriff’s Office arrested the Fitzgerald sisters on charges of animal cruelty.
