Trump reveals US destroyed 9 ‘important’ Iranian naval ships — and is ‘going after the rest’

President Trump announced Sunday that the United States has sunk nine Iranian warships and “largely destroyed” Tehran’s naval headquarters.

“I have just been informed that we have destroyed and sunk 9 Iranian Naval Ships, some of them relatively large and important,” Trump wrote on Truth Social. “We are going after the rest — They will soon be floating at the bottom of the sea, also!”

He added, “In a different attack, we largely destroyed their Naval Headquarters. Other than that, their Navy is doing very well!”

The claims come amid rising tensions following a series of attacks on commercial tankers and vessels, which Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps has said it carried out in response to recent US and Israeli strikes.

The Strait of Hormuz, located just off Iran’s northern coast, remains a critical chokepoint for global oil shipments, with roughly one-fifth of the world’s seaborne oil passing through annually. Since the attacks, traffic through the strait has dropped sharply, and Iranian vessels have broadcast messages warning that the strait is closed to commercial shipping.

President Trump has downplayed concerns over the vital waterway. Three American service members have died, and five others were seriously injured during Operation Epic Fury, according to US Central Command. Details surrounding their deaths have not been disclosed.

Operation Epic Fury began Saturday at around 9 a.m. local time in Iran as part of a joint effort with Israel targeting locations intended to degrade Iran’s missile capabilities and weaken its military infrastructure.

President Trump claimed that at least 48 top Iranian leaders, including Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, have been killed since the operation began. “It’s a very violent regime, one of the most violent regimes in history,” Trump told CNBC’s Joe Kernen. “We’re doing our job not just for us but for the world. And everything is ahead of schedule. Things are evolving in a very positive way right now.”

On Truth Social, the president also warned that if Iran attacks the United States, “WE WILL HIT THEM WITH A FORCE THAT HAS NEVER BEEN SEEN BEFORE.”

Sen. Lindsey Graham (R-SC), a close Trump ally, said on NBC’s Meet the Press that the operation’s goal is “to change the threat, not the regime.” Sen. Tom Cotton (R-Ark.), chairman of the Senate Intelligence Committee, noted that the president “has no plan for any kind of large scale ground force inside of Iran.”

Meanwhile, Trump told The Atlantic that he “agreed to talk” with Iran’s new leadership. “They should have done it sooner. They should have given what was very practical and easy to do sooner. They waited too long,” he said in a brief interview Sunday.
