Investigation underway after 14-year-old is allegedly used as a surrogate
The Oklahoma City Police Department (OCPD) is investigating whether a 15-year-old girl was used as a surrogate.
Authorities began the investigation in December after responding to a report of a possible sexual assault involving the then-14-year-old girl at an Oklahoma City apartment complex, according to KFOR.
Court documents obtained by KFOR indicate the teen, who has not been identified, was pregnant with twins. A referral from Child Protective Services (CPS) suggested the alleged father may be the 36-year-old boyfriend of the teen’s mother.
When CPS spoke with the mother, she reportedly said her daughter “desperately wanted additional siblings” and that she had “wanted children with her current boyfriend,” but her own ability to conceive was limited because her tubes were tied.
The court documents show that the mother refused to allow her boyfriend to impregnate her daughter. It remains unclear whether she consented to other methods, including surrogacy. Police have obtained a search warrant to collect DNA from the 36-year-old man to determine if he is the father of the twins.
The teenager, who is due to give birth this month, has been placed in protective custody. A second child in the home was also taken into protective custody. Criminal charges have not been filed against the mother, who reportedly left for California, or her boyfriend, whose whereabouts are unknown.
The Oklahoma Attorney General’s Office did not immediately respond to requests for comment. The OCPD told PEOPLE that no documents related to the case have been released publicly.
Oklahoma has some of the strictest abortion laws in the United States, prohibiting nearly all abortions except when necessary to save the life of the pregnant person or in cases of rape or incest that have been reported to law enforcement.
