Ilhan Omar snaps back at ‘drunk’ Nancy Mace for suggesting she is mourning Khamenei’s death
A public dispute erupted Sunday between Ilhan Omar and Nancy Mace following online remarks about the reported death of Iranian Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei.
Mace posted a message on social media after news of Khamenei’s death, writing, “My heart goes out to Ilhan Omar and Rashida Tlaib tonight. Sending them thoughts and prayers,” alongside a photo of the Iranian leader. The comment appeared to reference Omar and Rashida Tlaib, who were the first Muslim women elected to Congress and are members of the progressive group often referred to as “The Squad.”
Omar responded on X, criticizing Mace and denying any personal connection to Khamenei. She wrote that neither she nor Tlaib knew him and said she was confident he “didn’t care about us.” Omar also took aim at Mace over past allegations from former staff members regarding workplace conduct.

Last month, a report by New York Magazine cited former aides who alleged Mace drank alcohol excessively and asked staff to make late-night liquor store runs. Mace has strongly denied those claims, stating she has hemochromatosis, a genetic condition involving iron buildup in organs such as the heart and liver, which she says limits her ability to consume alcohol.
Mace fired back at Omar’s response, criticizing her wording and making a remark about her staff. Mace, who is running for governor of South Carolina, has publicly supported actions targeting the Iranian regime.
I hope you aren’t drunk and took your staff’s advice, Rashida and I don’t know this man and feel confident he didn’t care about us. Please restrain from drinking too much as you have been warned from your staff and stay off social media when you are drunk. I pray in his holy… https://t.co/s4kpye5QVg

The exchange is the latest in a series of online clashes between the two lawmakers. In January, Mace sought to have the House Oversight Committee subpoena records related to unproven allegations about Omar’s personal life.
Honey, it’s “please refrain” not “please restrain.”
This is what happens when your staff is from the Third World and can’t speak proper English. https://t.co/cvnr2VoZpe

Separately, Omar criticized Donald Trump on Saturday over his authorization of Operation Absolute Fury, a joint U.S.-Israeli strike on Iran in which Khamenei was reportedly killed. Omar argued that Americans are “tired of endless wars” and urged Congress to pass the Khanna-Massie War Powers Resolution. Prior to the strikes, she also questioned the timing of U.S. military action during Ramadan, the Islamic holy month of fasting and prayer.
Mace’s office did not respond to requests for comment.
