Transgender Suspect Charged with Attempted Murder After Shooting at Border Patrol Agent Near Canadian Border

A 26-year-old Manchester resident, Blu Zeke Daly, was arrested in connection with a shooting involving U.S. Border Patrol agents near the Canadian border in northern New Hampshire.

According to the U.S. Department of Justice, Daly has been charged with attempted murder of a federal officer and assaulting a federal officer with a deadly weapon.

The incident began late Saturday night in Stewartstown, when a Border Patrol agent encountered Daly driving alone near the border. Authorities say the agent asked whether Daly used any other names, at which point Daly allegedly fled the scene.

The agent followed at a distance for approximately 30 minutes until Daly reached the closed Pittsburg Port of Entry. Officials allege that Daly attempted to turn the vehicle around, pointed a handgun at the agent, and fired a shot. The agent returned fire, striking Daly. Daly’s vehicle then crashed into a snowbank, and Daly was taken into custody.

The agent was not injured. U.S. Attorney Erin Creegan described the agent’s safety as “a miracle.”

Local television station WMUR reported that Daly was seriously injured and remains hospitalized. Investigators have not yet been able to interview Daly but are speaking with individuals associated with the defendant to better understand the circumstances and possible motive.

“We’re still investigating everything about this individual, including potential motivation and what could have prompted them to be in the border area at that time of night, and what would have caused them to fire at a Border Patrol agent executing routine duties,” Creegan said.

Creegan also stated that Daly previously held a Massachusetts driver’s license listing male sex designation and now holds a New Hampshire driver’s license listing female. Public records indicate Daly legally changed their name in 2024.

When asked about possible ideological motivations, Creegan said all aspects of the case remain under investigation. She referenced the killing of a Border Patrol agent in Vermont last year, which authorities linked to individuals associated with a group known as the Zizians. The group has been described in prior reporting as having beliefs that include anarchism, veganism, and fringe rationalist ideas.

Creegan emphasized that investigators have not established any connection between the current case and that group.

In a press release, the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the District of New Hampshire stated that each charge—attempted murder of a federal officer and assault of a federal officer with a deadly weapon—carries a potential sentence of up to 20 years in prison and a fine of up to $250,000. Any sentence would be determined by a federal district court judge in accordance with federal sentencing guidelines and applicable statutes.
