Savannah Guthrie’s mother, Nancy Guthrie, 84, was reported missing from her home in Tucson on February 1. The Today co-anchor’s mother was last seen on January 31 after being dropped off at home in the evening by her son-in-law.
Since her disappearance, the Federal Bureau of Investigation has released photos and video showing an armed individual wearing a mask outside her residence, appearing to tamper with a security camera. Investigators have continued processing and reprocessing the scene as they search for answers. Despite ongoing efforts, no definitive breakthroughs have been announced, though new details continue to surface.
The suspected kidnapping investigation gained renewed attention after reports emerged of a woman seen hanging out of a moving car and screaming on the same night Nancy vanished.
The 911 call was reportedly placed the evening the 84-year-old disappeared from her Tucson-area home. According to reports, a woman was seen partially outside a “dark gray or blue Chevy Malibu.”
Jim Moret, chief correspondent for Inside Edition, discussed the call in a video posted to the program’s YouTube channel.
He said a dispatcher issued an alert after receiving a disturbing report about a woman screaming from a vehicle window.
“A chilling 911 call was made to police the night Nancy Guthrie was kidnapped. A police dispatcher sent out an alert about a woman hanging out of the window of a car, and she was screaming.”
Audio of the dispatch, later shared by television journalist Nancy Grace, included the following:
“The caller is advising they saw a female out of a vehicle window screaming. The vehicle was a dark gray or blue Chevy Malibu. No plates.
Advised that the female was hanging out of the window, wearing all black, and the door was also open.”
At the time the call was reported, authorities had not publicly confirmed a direct link to Nancy Guthrie’s disappearance, though investigators indicated they were not ruling anything out.
As federal and local authorities continue to follow leads, a neighbor in the Catalina Foothills area has described what she believes may have been suspicious activity in the weeks leading up to Nancy’s disappearance.
Aldine Meister, who has lived in the community for nearly 30 years, told Fox News Digital that she noticed a young man walking in the neighborhood about two weeks before Nancy went missing.
“He was kind of younger, and he just didn’t look like he was going out for a walk,” Meister said.
She added that he was not dressed in typical walking attire and had his hat pulled low over his eyes.
“He just didn’t fit,” she said.
The investigation remains ongoing as authorities continue searching for answers in the case.
