Man accused of trying to kill sister with crossbow over house temperature, police say

(Gray News) – A man in New York is facing charges after being accused of trying to kill his older sister with a crossbow because he wanted the house to be warmer, police said.

Officers with the Nassau County Police Department went to a home on Long Island on Friday, around 9:15 p.m., and found a 28-year-old woman bleeding from a cut on her face.

She had just returned home and was attempting to close the garage door when she felt pain where the arrow grazed her and called police. Officers found an arrow lodged in the wall of the garage.

Nassau County District Attorney Anne Donnelly told News 12 Long Island that the victim’s ear was torn and the shooting was just inches away from homicide.

Donnelly told News 12 the shooting was motivated by a “brother-sister rivalry” over what temperature their house should be. “She liked to keep it cooler, he wanted it warmer,” Donnelly told the outlet.

Samy Sedhom, 21, was charged with second-degree attempted murder, first-degree assault, fourth-degree criminal possession of a weapon, tampering with physical evidence and first-degree stalking.

Sedhom’s attorney told News 12 on Wednesday that this was a prank that went wrong. He said allegations that the siblings had been fighting about the temperature in their home are false.
