A Wisconsin woman accused of attacking a pregnant mother of two was arrested after authorities say she was identified in home security footage of the assault.

According to a criminal complaint obtained by local ABC affiliate WISN, 28-year-old Marielle Barrios allegedly directed an accomplice to harm the unborn child of Gheonna Lacy during the attack. Investigators say the assault occurred early Jan. 15 as Lacy left a group home in Racine, where she works as a caregiver.

Lacy told WISN she was approached by Barrios and a masked man carrying a metal baseball bat as she went outside to warm up her car. She said she was knocked to the ground and struck repeatedly. Lacy believes the incident stemmed from a personal dispute and alleges Barrios had been stalking her.

Security footage obtained by the station reportedly shows two suspects approaching Lacy from behind. She said she was able to identify Barrios when the woman’s face covering slipped during the assault.

“As a pregnant person, you feel like you’re safe,” Lacy told WISN. “It replays in my head every time I close my eyes.”

Police say Barrios later walked into a local station and left a written statement denying involvement. According to CBS affiliate WDJT, she was arrested Jan. 23 in Arkansas along with another woman accused of helping her evade authorities. Barrios faces charges in Racine County including substantial battery, aggravated battery to an unborn child, and armed robbery, after investigators say Lacy’s cellphone was taken during the attack. Authorities were still seeking the second suspect as of mid-week.

A fundraiser on GoFundMe created by Lacy’s employer states she is pregnant with her third child and currently unable to work due to her injuries. The campaign says she was hospitalized after the assault and that both she and her unborn baby were being closely monitored.

“This traumatic incident has left her physically injured, emotionally shaken, and unable to work,” the fundraiser states.
