Social media erupts after Stephen King makes false claim about Trump’s family: ‘What is this sh–?’

Horror author Stephen King is facing backlash online Monday after posting a critique of President Donald Trump’s personal and professional life, including an incorrect claim that Trump has no children.

In a post on X, King wrote:
“Trump: has never had a child. Has been married 3 times. Ran several businesses into the ground. Never ran a home, couldn’t make a bed to save his a–. Calls people he works with dumb, losers, etc. Has never done sweat labor. Has never served on a local committee.”

He added, “[He] has no life experience.”

The post quickly drew criticism, including from accounts such as Libs of TikTok.

“Trump literally has 5 kids. What is this sh–?” Libs of TikTok wrote on X.

Ryan Girdusky, founder of 1776 Project PAC, commented, “Um… I’m pretty sure Donald Trump had children. Is there a 25th Amendment for taking peoples’ phones away?” Conservative writer Bonchie also criticized King’s post, while reporter Jerry Dunleavy joked, “Donald Trump, famously childless.”

Trump, who is the father of five children and is in his second presidential term, is scheduled to address Congress Tuesday evening for the 2026 State of the Union.

King’s remarks echo a similar social media post aimed at Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, D-N.Y., over the weekend. An account called “Stacy is Right,” describing itself as a MAGA mother of three, criticized Ocasio-Cortez for never having children, never being married, and lacking professional or business experience.

King reshared that post before posting his comments about Trump.

Critics highlighted the similarities. “You literally plagiarized an entire post…which was about AOC… and then applied it to Trump…… for whom it isn’t true and doesn’t make any sense. Why are you plagiarizing? I thought you were a writer?” wrote Matt Van Swol, a former Department of Energy nuclear scientist, on X.

King has frequently used X to express his political views during Trump’s second term. In February 2025, he wrote, “Just wanted to say that Trump is a traitorous, Putin-loving dipsh–! Goes double for Elon!”

Earlier this year, King compared ICE to Nazi Germany’s Gestapo, writing, “ICE is the American Gestapo,” and in April criticized Trump’s tariffs, saying, “Trump is ruining the economy with his stupid tariffs.”

King’s office did not respond to requests for comment about the intent behind his latest post.
